Romania’s population connected to sewerage and wastewater treatment systems

2022 Statistical Data

Romania’s population is still facing an alarming situation regarding sewerage and wastewater treatment infrastructure. According to data from the only National Institute of Statistics (INS) 59.2% of the population was connected to sewerage systems in 2022. This figure calls for heightened concern, as it reflects a setback in terms of progress and overall hygiene.

Nevertheless, there is a “light at the end of the pipe.” In urban areas, the situation is better, with nearly 99% of the population connected to sewerage and wastewater treatment systems. This confirms that efforts are being made to ensure adequate and sustainable infrastructure in cities. We would like to emphasize the importance of this achievement, as sewerage infrastructure has a direct impact on public health and quality of life.

At the regional level, there is significant variation in the degree of connection to sewerage systems.

  • The Bucharest–Ilfov region stands out with the highest connection rate, reaching an impressive 99%.
  • The Center region at 70.7%, and the West region at 68.4%.
  • By contrast, the North-East, South–Muntenia, and South-West Oltenia development regions have lower connection rates, with figures ranging from 37.9% to 47.9%.

These regional disparities underscore the need to give increased attention to developing sewerage infrastructure in less-privileged areas.

Facilities & Benefits

“Located on Pipera–Tunari Road, between Balotești and Tunari, just 7 minutes from Pipera, the Luna neighborhood within Good Residence is where over 200 families have found the homes they dreamed of. We set out to give residents as many reasons as possible to smile for choosing us, and every year we’ve expanded the list of amenities. Currently, the neighborhood has the Kids Club kindergarten, a sports complex, and a beauty salon up and running; the bistro and the Good Residence store are nearing completion. Children have access to four parks with playgrounds within the Luna neighborhood, so they can fully enjoy their childhood.”

Planuri de Dezvoltare

Recently, we’ve dedicated ourselves to building the Luna Neighborhood — Phase IV, which continues the existing Luna development. It consists of 216 houses and features four models: Sol (3-room), Atria (4-room), Phoenix (4-room), and Zeta (5-room); both single-storey homes and homes with an upper floor. Floor areas range from 106 m² to 230 m², and the plots are extremely generous, as our customers have come to expect. The houses are built in the classic way, with reinforced concrete frames and brickwork, and the interior partitions are also brick. The finishes are of the highest quality: Rondine (Italy) ceramic tile, Classen flooring, Veka windows, Legrand sockets and switches, Ideal Standard sanitaryware, and Grohe faucets

The Luna Neighborhood — Phase IV will have full utilities (mains gas, electricity, public sewerage and mains water, internet).
